150 strong finance department create 14 group short films in a day

Recent trends suggest that as the world of finance changes so does the roles within them. With artificial intelligence automating many of the day-to-day tasks, our finance sectors are being urged to think more creatively as their role becomes more reliant on problem-solving.

One such company contacted us to request our help in engaging their finance team to embrace newly launched technical competencies in a fun way that energised their creative thinking, got them working together as a cohesive team and unified their learning by stepping outside their comfort zone. The team was from across Australia and New Zealand so would be baring their creative all to many people they never met.

We went to work !

The team was divided into 14 groups and informed that in a space of day they would be creating, performing, directing and then enjoying their own short films based on a designated competency.

The energy of the room ignited. With many believing this goal was impossible they set about with a 90 minute devising workshop with our experienced team leaders.

‘I felt like the workshop leader was more like one of us – listening to our suggestions and running with them’
‘I don’t think I’ve ever understood how much the body played a part in communicating’

Each group worked through emotions, communication and ideas before coming together to formulate a short film in particular genres complete with actors, script writers and directors. Each member was gifted the opportunity to present ideas as creative as they wished to go before pulling together as a team to unify their ideas into one completed storyboard.

From here – a quick trip to the costume department was a must before being met by a professional camera crew ready to turn their ideas into a formulated project.

Each group was given an allotted time to film and left the film set with a buzzing energy.

‘That felt really amazing – I can’t believe we just made a short film’
‘I’ve never done anything like this in my life’

The final touches were added by our super-wiz editing team – and VWHALA! The evening concluded with a showing of some of our finest productions.

Imagine being told that you were creating a film in the morning that would be shown that evening at your very own film festival. IT can be done.

What are the benefits of Lights, Camera, Action?

Participants will learn creative processes and immediately experience them in practice. Our workshop processes build creative confidence to people who would never dreamed that they had a creative bone in their body. They leave more confident about adapting to change.

Build presentation and storytelling skills with our experienced facilitators

Is there a masterclass in verbal and non-verbal communication included? YES

Delegate, create and negotiate in a fast-paced fun environment

This process is great for teams of any maturity. While this is a great way to build lasting relationships for distributed teams, it is also a great way to showcase the untapped skills of those who currently work together.

Create authentic, employee driven content which supports your change, brand and other communication initiatives.

At the end of the day your organisation is left with authentic, employee driven content which identifies their values, uses their language and shares their humour. It can be used in change programs, brand launches and other internal engagement programs.

As in all our Serious Woo workshops, participants had the opportunity to write themselves a ‘Note to Self’ that would be sent to them in the weeks to come. This is part reflection, part future reminder about what one can achieve when they are in flow, are psychologically safe and supported to appreciate that we are all creative, and that creativity flows from us in many different ways.
